Login & Access
I'm Locked Out of My WordPress Admin
can't log in to wordpress
What's happening
You're trying to get into the back of your own website — wp-admin — and can't. Maybe the password isn't working, the reset email never arrives, the dashboard loads forever, or you're getting an error. Meanwhile your public site might look perfectly fine, which makes being shut out of it all the more frustrating.
Why it happens
A few common reasons: a forgotten or changed password, a security plugin that locked you out after failed attempts, a plugin or theme conflict crashing the dashboard, or — less often — a hack that changed your login. The cause shapes the fix, which is why guessing can make it worse.
What you can safely try
- Use the "Lost your password?" link and check spam for the reset email.
- Wait a bit if you've had several failed attempts — a security plugin may have temporarily locked your address.
- Don't repeatedly hammer the login — that can extend the lockout or look like an attack.
When to call us
Lockouts are almost always recoverable without losing anything — by safely restoring access, disabling whatever's blocking the door, or cleaning up if it turns out to be a security issue. If you're shut out and need back in, we'll get you there quickly and figure out why it happened.
Common questions
- I requested a password reset but the email never came — now what?
- That's common, and it doesn't mean you're stuck. The reset email often fails for the same reasons other WordPress emails do. As long as you own the site and hosting, access can be restored safely another way.
- Could I be locked out because the site was hacked?
- It's possible — one sign of a compromise is suddenly losing access to your own admin. If your password simply stopped working with no explanation, it's worth treating as a possible security issue, not just a forgotten password.
